one ideea:
I think about ground quake on the Mars can be implement in the future ?
I remember: QUAKE DETECTED at X:Y from old Outpost 2 Divided Destiny. ;)
-
Thats a nice idea, perhaps with damage on equipment depending on how far away the quake is
-
and how powerful it is and if your really close to it your screen would start to shake and you would lose some health
-
Prove there are quakes on Mars...
-
Voila?

I would like to point out in "outpost 2: Divided destiny" the planet was mars like, and was seismically stable, until a feat of genetic engineering and bad plot writing enabled a terraforming bacteria to go out of control and start eating the planet.
If I recall correctly... as it ate the planet it produced heat and steam which would build up and crack the crust as it surged forward.

@Zaeno looks like they may or may not be active. I would like to think they are but not so sure it would be prevalent enough to code it into the game.
I have read that they think there might be active magma near the surface at some dormant volcanos. That being the case there could be liquid water below the surface and or gas pockets but still speculative.

It is my instinct that adding active tectonic quakes and active volcanoes to a planet that currently according to models should have neither is incredibly gamey....
*shrugs*
Would be entertaining to see though...

what would be cool is deep sheer cravasis (spelt wrong), impregnable rocky terrain and sheer drops- would make for interesting rescue missions if a rover went over in the dark or player slid down and got stuck... I say anything that gives atmosphere goes, one of MCO strong points is its terrian and the feeling of being on an 'alien' planet..
