Title: The size of the sun
Post by: Marco2001 on November 12, 2010, 03:51:33 PM

This is how the sun looks right now in MCO: http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/636/tapetapulpituq.jpg (http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/636/tapetapulpituq.jpg)
Note that the sun size is the same as viewed from earth.
Becouse Mars is futher away than Earth, the Sun's radial size is much smaller.
How much?
Quote
Since the average orbital distance of Mars is 1.5 AU, the change in apparent size of the sun would be 1/(1.5^2) = 44.4% the size as viewed from Earth. That is the apparent surface area of the sun; the radius would be 2/3 the size we are used to.

Becouse of that - Sun from Mars looks reely tiny.
Here are some photos of the Sun from Mars:

Agree It seems a little large in the sim but i guess all that will change,.. great photos the last one is amazing and reminds me of MCO Mars:surveyor..

..Anything that makes the sim more martian looking is a good thing :)

The last photo is fake ;D (made with "Bryce" propably)

I realize that It will most propably be modified later-on but I was thinking that at this stage of developement of MCO it's worth mentioning - just for noting it for the future.  ;)
The same goes with terrain texture, topography, natural light brightness, air colour and horizon depth.  :)

I agree, to simulate the envoirment and its difficulties (light and shadow for example) should be close as poss,..

I remember distinctly on the demo My first ever attempt of leaving the crater on foot- and still recall the vista I got and realising the landscape was large and forboding- thats what got me interested.. I 'felt' like I was 'there' and the atmoshpere stuck..
