Title: NDX-2 Mars Space Suit
Post by: Marco2001 on November 24, 2010, 05:01:37 PM

NDX-2 Mars Space Suit
(A group of scientists and space engeneers develops a suit specificly for mars environment. It has some new features compared to the old models. The NDX-2 is also called "soft" space suit. NDX-1 suit test has been complete, and now NDX-2 is beying currently tested. In a few months we will see how will the official proposed space suit will look. You can see how it progresses at: http://spacesuitlab.blogspot.com/ (http://spacesuitlab.blogspot.com/))

I don't know if this is how a new mars-suit will look like, or does enyone know that but those studies give valuable data about the subject.

-NOTE-
There is a tone of data about that on the internet. I haven't manage to gather it all up, so I just post some photos, links and videos.
If you found any other mars suit concept - please post it here. I'll edid this post if necesary.

Allright =) now this is more like something I was thinking might work on mars =)

* a ton less parts and joints, and to me it looks far more rugged.

LOL I am not dead set against accessories, I just question them =p

PS. I decided your IR camera if done right would be beneficial, I would just be much happier with it if there was no data connection between the helmet and the suit.  I hate connectors.. they always are failing.
maybe if the helmet was attached by a permanent cable or something to the suit. It could be removed but there would be no connectors to foul.

Or simply - it will be on the shoulder, like in current ISS suit  :)

BTW: I don't know how real is this one:

I saw some where and I can't remember where but this suit looks similar to what you posted. It is modeled on the idea of diving suits. It uses the rubber type material but it is not rubber. It is a tight suit so that you do not have to pressurize the suit but it keeps the pressure in tact without being bulky. I wish I could remember where I saw it. If I do I will post it here.

NEW NEWST ABOUT THE MARS SPACE-SUIT

Quote
NASA's Next Space Suit

Dan Barry, vice president and director of research and development at Worcester, MA-based David Clark Company, demonstrates the company's early prototype of the Constellation space suit, NASA's next suit for travel to the moon, Mars and beyond. The company is designing the new space suit in partnership with Houston-based Oceaneering International, who was awarded a $500 million contract from NASA.
