Title: Topo Maps of Mars
Post by: Mars_In_Ten on February 29, 2016, 02:48:05 PM
Hyper, et al,  just in case you don't have them already -- and they are of any use to you -- I have high resolution color coded topo map of Mars (-72 to +72 latitude, 20"X34") and also circular maps centered on north and south pole (90 to 70 longitude).  happy to scan regions if you like.  Available from NASA too of course.

Thanks, I can get access to some of that. Problem is zone containment once you hit the edge of the world. Flat surfaces will allow the user to see beyond the end and get that ugly clear color. So I kinda have to make the hills around the zone big enough to hide alot of that.

Ya, I was wondering about that.  One possibly workable area might be something patterned after a portion of Valles Marineris.  Also, the very high resolution images of various local terrains could be incorporated into your maps.  Would add another layer of authenticity.  Giving actual names to some of these features might add too.  just a thought

what's the feasibility of using a spherical map?? no edges there.  wouldn't It be great to have a somewhat accurate spherical map of the whole planet to explore.  waaay too much storage space I suppose, but the way computer tech is developing .......?
