Just saying hi to all

I am new to this forum and would like to say hi to all the Mars-folks here!
I got Mars-"infected" around 10 years ago, after reading an article of David Williams about a crewed mission to Mars, since then I'm updating my knowledge of this subject from time to time. Now, because the graphics in the sim look pretty much alike the pictures in the article I read, I am curious if the designers/programmers of this sim are anyhow inspired by this article? The concept and even the technical details match, i.e. providing ERV-propellant by mixing reactants while on Mars. I am very thankful that you guys created this superb game (althoug still a demo yet) to allow others, including me ;) , an in-depth view of what will going on on Mars when the first humans land there!

Beside that, I have a few questions regarding the sim:
Is there a reason for the absence of a game-clock or a timer?
Is there a keybinding for taking those jpeg-screenshots?
Now for my last question I might not be brave enough, so I cancelled it. (The question was: Is there a Pause key?...)

I am in the middle of mission one and so far I found water with the last of my GPR-shots plus drilling the place, now it's time to place the pumps exactly and fix that COHAB 50% OXYGEN warning! It's a lot of work for a single astronaut ...

Hopefully it will be an interesting time,

\Hank

Hi mark!

I'm also new to this, so I'll try to answer your questions but it might be better if one of the others just comes in and confirms them.

Is there a reason for the absence of a game-clock or a timer?

That has been rectified in the newest versions of the colony, which are currently in beta testing.

Is there a keybinding for taking those jpeg-screenshots?

If you press F1 ingame, you can select a keymap that, I believe, tells you which key to press. Failing that, when you start the demo go to Options, and select the Controls tab, there's a detailed keymap there.

Now for my last question I might not be brave enough, so I cancelled it. (The question was: Is there a Pause key?...)

Hah! No :P

Well if you fancy a bit of help, I'd be glad to jump in and give you a hand, and I bet some of the others would be too!

I think Hyper is still accepting new testers for the beta version of the game, so if you PM him and ask you could get in on the next test, which begins this friday.

Hi Hank. I just joined too. I hope you good luck: no sand-storms and a lot's of water. I play the demo frequently so if you have your ports forwarded I think you will meet me in-game eventually...and together it's way easier in Mars Online :)

Thanks to you! When I've managed to transfer water to the water seperator I'm ready for some online attempts, just don't want to stand in the way ;) It also depends on the timezone, but I'm flexible. Beta-testing sounds very interesting, yet I don't know what the requirements are. Looking forward to have some EVA's with you   :)

welcome Hank
Murphy's Law applies "Anything that can possibly go wrong, does." or some say it this way "If anything can go wrong, it will.
