Dirk Schulze-Makuch, Ph.D. School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Washington State University, and Paul Davies, Ph.D. Beyond Center, Arizona State University proposed the idea of sending astronauts to Mars one way. With the subsequent colonization.

The first real 'colonists' you send up might be in for a bit of a surprise

i doubt that sending 4 colonists one-way and supplying them "for decades" is cheaper than sending 4 colonists two-way with 1-3 months stay + post-mission medical attendance.

Wouldn't the idea be to get them to a point of self sufficiency meaning you wont have to supply them for decades, give a man a fish he eats for a day, give him the means to farm fish and he can eat forever and all that lol.
