E-textiles clothes - Idea

E-textiles clothes
( A proposed way to let players customize they'r clothes when they are not wearing EVA )

Quote
We'll develop clothing that can constantly project the video of our choosing (unless it turns out being so annoying that we ban it). Imagine wearing a robe covered in a display that actually projects the night sky in realtime. Imagine talking to people over the "phone" just by making a hand gesture and activating electronics in your lapel, then merely thinking about what you want to say (thought-to-speech interfaces). The possibilities of e-textiles are limitless.

If in any way MCO players will have the ability to take-off they'r EVA-suit in the future, they will walk in the base with they'r casual clothes on. It might be frustrating to see that everyone weare's the same clothes every time, so a solution is to switch to some other clotes. Here I present an interesting solution that requires only one pair of clothes: E-textiles.
E-textiles work on the fact that every clothes (well...most of them at least :D ) have fibers. If those fibers are out of special material, they can glow as you command them. E-textiles doesn't even need a keybord or anything like that to operate what they display,  becouse they work as a keybord themselves (just wright somtheing on them with your finger). The interesting fact is that E-textiles can change from totaly transparent to solid colour you desire. You can even make a pattern or a draving on them.

In MCO, player would have the ability to change they'r look by simply clicking on they'r clothes and selecting the prefabricated design.
But that's not all!
Some players would even want to make a custom design...no problem!
All they need to do is to go to they'r computer and select to load texture from players hard-drive. The texture is then displayed on players avatar clothes.

In my personal feeling: wastage of materials and energy. Bad idea.

I like the Idea! It is a game even if it is a simulator. I know hyper has said that all along.

I have given though to taking some of the plant material waste, algae etc mix with the proper chemicals and viola... thread. So if we have thread then we can weave it into cloth for repairs and even filter units for various things. Again the big issue is how much is too much and how far/deep do I make this product? Keeping the game ability and yet offering some sense of reality is still a bit of a magic trick. Will the early settlers make cloth from threads from plants and chemicals? Yes they will even if it is for patching things. At what point do I cut this off and say it is beyond the scope or intent of the game/sim.....

I think things like this might seem frivolous to us on earth who can get whatever we want at the store, but think about the psychology of actually living on an alien planet with a few people in a tiny series of tanks for an extended period of time. You will need something frivolous like this just to keep from going insane.

I like the idea in principle, I just don't know how difficult it will be to program. Maybe just create a bunch of prefab options rather than allowing players to add their own? As with music, customizing your clothes makes you feel at home and keeps the crazies away.

I tend to agree but I also agree with what hyper said.
