Slope indicator for rover
« on: January 16, 2011, 07:12:17 PM »
When you drive the rover it's hard to see from your perspective at what angle you drive.
This can lead to a rover accident when in an instance your rover loses grip and starts to fall.
An slope indicator measuring angles would help a lot. If this indicator had a "red zone", new players would instantly know which is the maximum angle before the rover will stop climbing.

That is very interesting "new players would instantly know which is the maximum angle before the rover will stop climbing"
or would no one care what angle they were driving and just keep going till they slid down the hill?

As in now the rovers have an over speed clearly in red (goes RED at 6 speed and damage starts at 10 speed) but walk around any rover any time and you will see them way up in damage scale are they crashed alot or just held flat out till you get where you are going?

Its so easy to fix the rovers that there's not much of an incentive to take care of them... just crash the rover and fix it up again, only takes 10 seconds.

At the moment yes it easy to fix them up-  the plan I think is for them to be easier to break down/harder to repair- and will have components that can/will individually fail..
Also "penalties" (cannot use rovers for a time etc, Player game money costs etc) have been considered for players who delibratally try to damage rovers..

Saying that I have tried My hardest to roll a rover in a test,.. and once was able to get some air due to the speed I was doing..

Rover use, performance, repair etc is another complex system that just adds to this amazing sim..  But, its true that the Rovers pay a bit part in the sim- we are on Mars so we would use a rover to Explore the surface.  The rovers would have to be just right with the right amount of fun too to give a chunk of the feel to the sim.
