NPK for farm.
« on: April 10, 2011, 03:20:39 PM »
Hey there hyper, I know eventually you plan on implementing NPK fertilization for the farm.  I thought I would whip up a little prototype that kinda is real world values on how plants respond to differing levels of the three major nutrients in the soil.

I hope you find it helpful.

Compost stock in the soil generally breaks down slowly so it would have a tendency to hold all three levels at a place plants like, and is nearly impossible to over fertilize with, the more of it the longer plants are happy.   Maybe you could implement using that similar to how fish food currently works and cause it to hold all the levels twords the green based on how much there is in the planter.

Being a agriculture buff the difference in the following fertilizers

Nitrogen
helps with green foliage growth
too much may prevent the plants from flowering or growing fruit.

Phosphorous(P)
Promotes root growth

Potassium(K)
Promotes flower and fruit growth

As for the subject of composting, urine is sterile and a good source of nitrogen. It needs to be diluted to a ratio of atleast 1 part urine to 5 parts water but up to a ratio of 1:10 is better before it can be added to the composting or plants.

Little fact though straight urine can be used as a weedkiller ;D
