MCO Demo Question
« on: August 10, 2010, 03:09:40 PM »
I was wondering how many missions there were in the mco demo because of this picture:

I thought there were only two missions... I wouldn't know...  :-\ I'm still chipping away at mission two...
Could someone explain? Or is that only a picture and not in the demo?

Well, I haven't really played the demo ever since I started testing MCO. However, last I checked, there was no more than Two demo missions.

There is therefore only three possibilities for this picture:

1: The original picture was edited.
2: This is from a different Hyperkat M.C. series like MCS or another series that Hyper has not revealed or that I am unaware of.
3: This is from a different version of MCO or the demo that, again, Hyper has not released or you and I have not gotten.

In any of these I am 90% sure there is only 2 demo missions, so it is highly probable that it is 1 or 2.

Otherwise, I do not know and cannot anwser your question.

Of course, that is just the assessment I can make based on what I know. Hyper or someone else more experienced than me would probably be able to anwser your question beter.

This is a picture from the Demo :D
Oryginally there was supposed to be 3 missions, but the project stopped when MCO started.
You can find this picture inside the game files. :)

Marco is correct, there were 3 missions planned but I released the demo with only 2.
I was thinking of redoing the demo and call it Mars:Explorer and expand it a bit more. Supposed to be the prelude to MCO then Mars:Surveyor was the aftermath of the colony where we try to expand our footprint on the planet. So basicly there are 3 version all using the same code base just different mission targets. Would like to release it all as a single game but still not sure how to pull it off.

Maybe demo as 'Tutorial'?
'Surveyor' as secret missions
'MCO' as the main thing...

The current demo really does work best as a kind of tutorial; the only problem is that there's a lot of learning by experimenting, which is good for once you've gotten your feet under you, but not nearly so interesting when you've little or no clue what you're doing. Admittedly, this could be solved with an opening cutscene / "hand-holding" for the basics (something FAR down the road at this point) or the option for more experienced community members to act as a kind of "Mission Control", providing hints and information through the Hab computer. Surveyor could function as unlockable missions during MCO, with success / failure providing potential new sources for raw or worked materials and markets for goods produced in the main MCO.

Actually what I plan to do in all cases is to start adding a [ INFO ] button to the dialogs and have a description of what the equipment is and does. That with an extended version of the equipment how it works science etc on the web should satisfy most needs. If you already know then you dont need to hit the button if you dont then you can find out.
