Placing parts like a module is alot of manual work in a editor. Having users "build" a module was someting I wanted to do but would be extremely hard to do in software. How does a character pickup/move/hold the large pieces required to do the construction. I looked into magic construction like they did in StarWars Galaxy but didn't like how it was done.
I have pre built the base and add parts in per mission phase. I can add other phases that have pre positioned objects and will probably allow phases beyond the 6 phase game but to get the product out this year I have to get the most bang for the programming buck as I can. The current scenario is that a construction crew sets up the new modules between mission phases and you and your friends become the inhabitants of the base. What you suggest would be great, implementation on both code and art would be a 2 year nightmare. Perhapps version 2...
